I do not have any fire or smoke alarms connected to this. The other day the keypad started to beep and the fire light began to flash and the service light is on. I've changes the battery several times over the years. If not, I will begin by connecting a scope to the alarm panel keypad pins and will check out what comes down the line and take it from there. Hello, I have a GE Networx series NX-8V2 and have had it for about 15 years with absolutely no problems.

Ideally, I'd like to use GPIO pins, rather than a USB to RS232 convertor, to listen to the comms.īefore I begin, I was wondering if anyone has done this. Although comms to the keypad is 2-way, all I'm interested in (for now) is what the alarm board sends to the keypad when any zone (reed switches, PIR, etc.) opens or closes. It has a 2 wire connection to the alarm panel, which I assume is RS232. (It would also email me under certain conditions.) What I need to know is how to eavesdrop on the keypad controller. On top of that, I use TightVNC to control the Pi, so it sits in the same cupboard as my home alarm, without a keyboard, mouse or screen.)įor my next project, I'd like to monitor my home alarm system, a Caddx NX-8, using a web site I will write. (I also use crontab to control the lights at specific times. The site is encrypted with SSL and requires a log in, so I'm confidant enough to make some more web sites to handle home security. Following various directions I've found on the forums, I've installed Apache, OpenSSL, Mochad (to control X10 switches via USB to an X10 controller), and wrote a web site that lets me turn lights on and off. I am fairly knowledgeable with wires/electronics, and I opened up the box and looked at it, and it looked fairly simple, I'm guessing you would have to move a few wires to a different spot I just don't know which ones go where, and was just curious if anyone has had the same issue as me, and if so, if they could help me out and tell me which wires I would have to switch to where.Despite being a noob, I have succeeded in turning my Pi into an X10 Web based home controller. We are debating switching BACK to comcast voice and I am wondering if after he set up our alarm box to the phone line for VoIP, if they would have to change it back for regular phone service, and if so, if it is possible or fairly simple to wire it myself, as to not pay the 125 bucks to have the guy come in my house for 10 minutes and change a few wires. When we originally had the box installed, we had a home phone line, but a few years later we changed over to Vonage, and when we did, we had an issue with the box, and had to have a technician come out and make a few changes and charge us a hefty ~125 bucks. I have a alarm system with a DSC Power 632 PC1555MX box.
